Prince of Darkness (1987)

Check out the new PRINCE OF DARKNESS page at SET-JETTER.COM

ORIGINAL BLOG:

At the height of his golden era, John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness remains one of my favorite films.   Great script, great soundtrack, and great visuals.  I had been to the church and mission before, but on my most recent trip I decided to check out the campus and surrounding locations.

First up is the walk to the Town & Gown building on USC....

And the fountain across the way....

Steps, steps, and more steps....

Here is the sidewalk coming up the side of the same building....

In a different building is the hallway to their classroom....

And the lecture classroom...

Next up is the Mission San Fernando courtyard and fountain....

And across the street they shot a scene from the opening montage...

And I was finally able to track this previously unfound location for the porch.   Thanks to blu-ray, there is one frame where you can see a partial house number.  With that information, I was able to track it down to Menlo Avenue on the USC campus.  The houses across the street have been torn down and replaced by a store.   The porch and brick has remain relatively unchanged.  (UPDATE September 2014: new porch pictures added!)

Comparison shot:

The view he looks at is several blocks away, and an apparent matte painting...

  1. I've noticed that church in some other random films. Namely Showdown in Little Tokyo and Maniac Cop 3.
